Fred Damiano, who has taught creative writing and English literature classes at Highland Park High School for seventeen years, retired at the end of 2009. Mr. Damiano also served as a long-time and integral member of the Highland Park Literary Festival organizing committee.
Because of Fred's commitment and service, Highland Park High School students have had the opportunity to develop and showcase their creativity, particularly through the HPLF Open Mic Night and Student Writing Contest, and to learn from renowned authors who participate in the Literary Festival's writing workshops. Fred's love of creative writing and literature has inspired many students to pursue their literary passion through college and beyond.
To honor Fred and thank him for the difference he has made in the lives of so many students, the Literary Festival committee's past and current members have established the Fred Damiano Scholarship, which will be awarded to a graduating senior at the awards assembly in May 2010.
Students, parents, teachers, and friends who would like to honor Fred by contributing to the Fred Damiano Scholarship may make a donation by following this link to the Highland Park Education Foundation website and selecting the Fred Damiano Scholarship from the drop-down menu.
Thank you, Fred, for being our teacher, mentor, colleague, and friend.
